Jonathan Michael Ray at 41/42, Gulval

Installation view from outside

West Cornwall based artist Jonathan Michael Ray has made a new site specific glasswork for 41/42, now on display above the entrance to the building. Symbolically in place above the front door, this inaugural work marks the occasion of our first opening to the public, which coincided with Penzance Literary Festival in July.

Ray works with sculpture, photography and printmaking, incorporating found objects, stained glass and stone. His work considers landscape through its historical, geological and spiritual forms. He has an interest in strata and fractures, studied through descriptive line, transparency and overlaid forms. A selection of Ray’s works are currently on view at Tate St Ives as part of ‘Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Jonathan Michael Ray’ until 2 October 2022.
